Review by: Alex Bettucchi - October 2010

In session isn’t an official album/ collection , it is dated 1992 (and republished in 1996) it contains material of the early 80’s. The compilation was realized from Sovereign label and distributed from Delta music – Arvato services. It is above all unpublished material, mainly demo, with the exception of some songs already engraved and published from Lisa Stansfield in 45 RPM format early stage. We have to note that the track number 14 is entitled Alibis, while the original title is Your alibis.

The collection doesn’t contain some know songs or demo of the first Lisa’s band (Blue zone), because the most part of the demo go back to 1982 . The song I got a feeling is also excluded from the tracklist, that is the 4th single of Lisa’s early career, in 45 RPM format.

It is very difficult to make a valuation on the songs of this album for two reasons: First of all, these songs are in demo version, and for this reason we can’t listen a finished work; in second place we can appreciate a little girl’s green voice in the beginning of her career. The label took advantage of this golden opportunity and for this reason In session represents a pure commercial action.

The label published material without authorization, and we don’t know the British singer official position about these publications. We can notice that the singer didn’t destruct these publications , perhaps to consent to her inveterate fans to complete their collections.

Note to all various editions

In session, also famous with the title of Early recording, in the beginning was available only in the first vinyl version, the following printing utilized the CD as support. In this page are present three different covers, and the presence of other covers is possible because of the bootleg nature of this collection.
