Review by: Amedeo Pesole - May 2010

The album Biography is on sale in the market (already with the label BMG Arista) in February 2003: this is Lisa’s first Greatest Hits. During this period is well known that it will be the last one with that record company, even if this album definitely celebrates the British singer’s amazing career and with the following The complete collection it tries to maximize the sales at her favor proposing to the audience a lot of unpublished versions. The album contains all the Lisa Stansfield’s commercial successful songs and in 17 tracks we can entirely find the artist’s career even if other great pieces of her repertory weren’t included.

The album opens with the beautiful Change, Real Love greater success and a famous hit in Italy, and continues with Someday (I’m coming back) that is part of The bodyguard soundtrack and is maybe the soundtrack most sold in history with it’s 42 million copies, and then This is the right time, her first soloist’s single. Number 4 is The real thing from the same named album dated 1997 and one of the most successful singles. Track number 5 is People hold on featuring Coldcut that represents for Stansfield the confirmation as soloist and a great success “used” for the following dance remixes.

Followed by In all the right places, part of The Indecent proposal (1993) soundtrack, is another successful song. Then we find So natural from the same named album and Time to make you mine from Real love and the beautiful Live together one of her most beautiful tracks of all times. It’s time for Little bit of heaven, one of her classics, and the splendid Set your loving free, meanwhile number 12 proposes the only piece from the album Face up, better yet Let’s just call it love not exactly a hit but anyhow a great track.

At the tracks 13 and 14 two great hits, the most famous Never never gonna give you up and number 1 in UK These are the days of our lives a track from Queen from their 1993 album Five live, and played together with Queen and George Michael At Wembley stadium during the tribute for Freddie Mercury, follows Down in the depths a piece by Cole Porter sang by Lisa and included in the Red hot & blue album, or yet, a compilation chosen for charity in the research for AIDS in 1990. All woman a beautiful ballad and All around the world her most famous piece and most succesful around the world wrap up the greatest hits. Real love is defenitely her most re-nowned album because of 4 hits from this collection, in which obtained good positions in the charts, especially in the UK. In Italy it’s 3rd and 9th, 46th in Germany, and 58th in switzerland. There’s also a DVD version of Biography together with an interview of Lisa with her 2 most famous clips. We speak of a great compilation, a “must” for especially for those who discover Lisa for the first time.

Note to all various editions

Biography was also published as a bonus CD together with the same named Special Edition DVD.
